Travel itinerary from Saturday, October 21st to Saturday, November 4th, 2023: Tehran, Golestan, Mashhad, Tabas, Kerman, Shahdad

    Saturday 10/21/2023

    Sightseeing in Tehran. Nature Bridge, Shah Palace in the north, Tajrish Bazaar, and Saleh Mosque at the Bazaar. Dinner in Darband Mountains.

    Saturday 10/21/2023

    In the morning, train journey to Sari on the Caspian Sea (250km), a romantic ride into the Alborz Mountains by train. In Sari, our bus picks us up and we continue to Gorgan (133km) to our hotel. In Gorgan, we visit the Naharkhoran Forest. Dinner at a traditional restaurant in Gorgan.

    Day 4)
    Saturday 10/21/2023

    On this day, we will travel to Gonbad-e Kavus and visit the tallest brick tower in Iran (11th century). We will then proceed to Torkaman Sahra on the Caspian Sea to visit a horse breeding facility. We will also explore Torkaman Sahra Bazaar and experience the lifestyle of the people with their colorful traditional costumes.

    Saturday 10/21/2023

    We will stay at the Caspian Sea and visit the Hyrcanian forests and waterfalls along the Caspian Sea. Afterwards, we will visit the Miankale Peninsula. Miankale is a biosphere reserve with over 100 different bird species, including flamingos, pelicans, and eagles, among others. Here, sturgeon fish are bred for caviar production.

    Overnight stay in Golestan National Park (Golestan National Park) Kolbe Torkaman.

    In the early morning, we leave the Golestan province and head towards Mashhad (400km). Near Bojnurd, we stop at Espacho, a Zoroastrian fire temple. In Rudkhan, 70km before Mashhad, we visit Borj Rudkhan, a tower with the world's first sundial and solar calendar. In Mashhad, we visit the shrine of the eighth Imam of the Shiites, Imam Reza.

    We visit the Haram again during the day. This impressive mausoleum is one of the most artistic mosques in Iran, enchanting all senses with its tile work, gold decorations, and water pools. Afterward, we drive to Tus (25km) to visit the monument of the poet Ferdowsi, who revived the Persian language after the Arab invasion.

    Further sightseeing in Mashhad, arts and crafts in Mashhad, caravanserai. Then, we drive to Neyshabur, the center of turquoise stones (120km). In Neyshabur, the famous Persian poet, mathematician, and astronomer Omar Khayyam is buried. At his mausoleum, we read his daring poems about love, wine, and the enjoyment of life. We return to Mashhad.

    Saturday 10/21/2023

    After breakfast at the hotel, we drive to Ferdows (360km). In this area and Torbat Heydarieh, we visit the saffron fields and saffron factories. We also explore the qanats (underground water supply systems in the desert) to learn about water extraction methods in the desert.

    Saturday 10/21/2023

    Today, we head towards Tabas and visit the oldest dam construction from the Achaemenid era (Azmikhan), Mortezaali hot spring, and Golshan Garden. We also explore the rice cultivation areas in the desert.

    After breakfast, we drive towards Kerman (516km). We visit the caravanserai, bazaar, and Ganjali Khan Complex in Kerman.

    Visit to the city of Rayen (a 1000-year-old city) and the city of Mahan in the desert, including Shahzadeh Garden from the Qajar dynasty and the mausoleum of the poet and mystic Shah Nematollah Vali.

    Saturday 10/21/2023

    On this day, we will visit the Shahdad Desert located in the heart of the Dasht-e Lut desert. During the journey, we will explore the pistachio orchards and enjoy the stunning landscape of the mountains. In the Shahdad Desert, we will immerse ourselves in the tranquility, the vast sky, the towering and snow-covered Hazar peaks, the enchanting Hamun Lake, and numerous diverse natural phenomena. The sand dunes constantly shape-shift in the wind, creating one of the most spectacular geomorphological spectacles. In the evening, we will take a flight back to Tehran.

    In Tehran, we will visit the Golestan Palace in the southern part of the city. You will have some free time to explore on your own. In the evening, we will have a farewell dinner at a traditional restaurant.
